Insurance coverage
Counselling and psychotherapy provided by a Registered Social Worker are not covered under OHIP but are covered by many extended health benefit plans. Please speak with your insurance provider to inquire if you are eligible for reimbursement.
As of 2012, clinical services provided by registered social workers are eligible for a tax credit through the Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC). Registered Social Workers are authorized as medical practitioners so psychotherapy services can be claimed on your taxes. Visit www.cra.gc.ca/medical to learn more about claiming the METC.
Cancellation policy
If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please contact me at least 48 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule. Missed appointments with less than 48 hours of notice will be charged at the full fee.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is an essential element in creating a safe and supportive environment in which you feel comfortable to explore your challenges. Your clinical record is strictly confidential and will never be released to any third party without your written consent.
As Registered Social Workers and Registered Psychotherapists, we strictly adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice outlined by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as well as the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
There are a few situations in which we are legally obliged to break confidentiality in order to protect the safety of a client or another individual. These include:
Risk of harm to self or another person
Suspected child abuse or neglect for a minor under the age of 16 (we are legally obligated to report to Children’s Aid Society under the Child and Family Service Act)
A court of law subpoenas clinical records regarding an incident (if possible, we will contact you before releasing any information).
