Hello, I’m Lesley Whiffing, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) practicing out of Keswick, Ontario. I am passionate about supporting couples who find themselves caught in recurring conflicts and negative communication patterns that leave both partners feeling unheard, frustrated, or disconnected. I help you to identify what keeps you stuck and learn to turn toward each other with greater responsiveness and understanding. Even when relationships feel difficult, many couples still deeply care about one another and want to find their way back to connection. I would be honoured to support you in finding that path together.

In my practice, I work with couples from many different backgrounds. I’m particularly passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse couples navigating family building and parenting transitions, and the way these experiences can shape their relationships.

When one or both partners are living with ADHD or Autism, differences in communication styles, sensory needs, and ways of processing emotions or conflict can sometimes create misunderstandings and a sense of disconnection that neither partner intended. LGBTQIA+ couples may also face additional stressors such as navigating gestational and non-gestational family roles, or managing minority stress within extended family and community systems.

How can I help

As a queer, neurodiverse parent of three, I bring both professional training and lived experience to this work. My work is neurodiversity- and trans-affirming, where you can show up authentically and feel heard, welcomed, and supported.

Through our work together, couples often rediscover a sense of closeness and partnership. As understanding and empathy grow, partners learn to share more openly, listen with more empathy, and move through difficult moments without feeling alone in the relationship.

My approach

My approach is relational, curious, and compassionate. From a socially-aware and anti-oppressive lens, I support individuals and couples who are building a deeper understanding of each other’s fears, strengths, and needs. I believe that it is only through connection and emotional safety that individuals can reach their full potential – independently, and as a partnership.

I practice primarily from an Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) lens. EFT helps couples respond emotionally to one another with effective communication and successful repair after conflict. I also integrate self-compassion based practices, to address internalized shame and soothe emotional wounds that may continue to shape present-day relationships.

More about me

Navigating the challenges of divorce, co-parenting, remarriage, and a blended family, I’ve learned firsthand what it feels like to look at a struggling connection and wonder how you got here. My passion for Emotionally Focused Therapy comes from lived experience and meaningful insights into my own contributions and potential. I have personally experienced being on the client side which gave me deep insight into the process of reconnecting.

Outside of my therapeutic work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and children, taking long walks around my neighbourhood, and playing boardgames.
