Hello, I am Melodie, a Master of Social Work graduate student at Wilfrid Laurier University, with a background in supporting families with children and youth.

I am passionate about supporting couples to strengthen their relationship by enhancing communication, building trust, and deepening emotional connection leading to a more fulfilling relationship.

How I can help

I am here to support you by creating a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative space where you can share your story and feel understood. For couples I aim to help you recognize patterns,  to help improve communication, and build empathy. My goal is to help you reconnect and strengthen your relationship. Relationships play an important part in our lives as it provides companionship, emotional support, and shared experiences. Together we will work on resolving challenges in a way that strengthens your bond.

I believe that we all carry our own unique life experiences, which can lead to intense emotions and thoughts, sometimes making it hard to cope. For individual therapy, I provide a compassionate, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings. If you are feeling anxious, stressed, or are impacted in managing your emotions, it is important to know that you do not have to navigate this alone. Together, I will also support you in your journey to healing while setting personal goals and developing effective coping skills to manage stress and navigate life changes to assist your personal growth.

As someone of Indo/Afro-Caribbean heritage, I have a profound respect for cultural traditions. I also understand the challenges of navigating relationship challenges and pregnancy loss, especially when cultural expectations and personal grief feel overwhelming. I often felt pressured to prioritize family harmony and resilience, which made it difficult to acknowledge or express my own pain. This led to unhealthy patterns, difficult conversations, and struggles with processing my emotions. However, through my healing journey, I learned the importance of self-care and how to communicate more openly and authentically.

My approach

I provide a compassionate and culturally sensitive approach to counselling, with a focus on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT is a therapeutic approach that helps couples reconnect and express their emotions to each other by addressing negative interaction patterns and promoting healthier communication. This approach leads to deeper intimacy and more fulfilling relationships.

More about me

Having personally navigated the ups and downs of a marriage—and now enjoying a successful one—as well as being a mother of three, I know from experience that meaningful, fulfilling relationships are possible. Through the challenges and growth, I have learned that relationships require continuous effort, vulnerability, and mutual understanding.  With patience, commitment, and a shared willingness to grow together, we built a foundation of trust and respect. This journey inspired me to shift my career to counselling as I am passionate about helping others build healthy, fulfilling relationships.

Outside of work, I love travelling and spending time with my family and friends.
