Hello, I’m Yulia Evans, I’m a Registered Psychotherapist based in Toronto, offering couples and marriage therapy to support partners in navigating conflict and fostering more fulfilling relationships. I identify as a first-generation immigrant with a European background, and I have lived in Canada for over 20 years. I am passionate about helping couples rebuild their connection and trust, rediscover ease and a sense of safety, improve communication, and deepen intimacy - especially when they are feeling stuck in conflict, disconnected by daily stress, or navigating major transitions like becoming parents.

Why I became a therapist

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a financial analyst in the healthcare sector for over 10 years. Over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to the human stories behind the data—the real lives, emotions, and struggles. This curiosity about people’s inner worlds led me to pursue training as a Health and Life Coach, and eventually, psychotherapy.

My own life has included significant transitions—divorce, immigration, remarriage, and motherhood—and these experiences have taught me that even the most painful moments can become pathways to deeper connection and growth. Going through Non-Violent Communication training helped me build a stronger foundation with my second husband and avoid the patterns that contributed to my earlier relationship struggles. Learning Emotionally Focused Therapy later on in my professional training added emotional depth and resilience to our bond. These tools now shape the way I support others: with clarity, presence, and compassion.

My approach

My therapeutic style is warm, relational, and attuned. I work from a client-centred, strength-based, and trauma-informed perspective. Whether you’re facing long-term tension, experiencing mistrust, wanting to reconnect, or your relationship is impacted by past trauma, I am here to support you in building new ways of relating with care and integrity.

My primary modality is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)—a research-based approach that helps partners understand the predictable negative patterns beneath their conflict and to move toward greater closeness. I also integrate Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and mindfulness practices, which offer practical tools for expressing needs clearly, listening with empathy, resolving conflict with respect and care, and reducing reactivity.

Together, these approaches create a powerful framework to help couples shift from reactivity to responsiveness, from disconnection to deeper intimacy.

More about me

Outside of therapy, I find joy in spending time with my husband and two children, exploring nature, swimming, and attending theatre performances with friends. I continue to learn every day – both in life and in my work – and feel honoured to walk alongside couples as they navigate their own stories of growth and transformation.
