Hello, I am Fiona and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) student completing my final year of the Masters of Divinity Clinical Counselling program at Tyndale University. I am passionate about supporting young professionals and couples who are navigating difficult seasons and conflicts to connect more deeply with themselves and their loved ones. I also provide a faith-sensitive space for those seeking to integrate spirituality into the therapy process.
I believe that our quality of life is strongly impacted by the strength of our connections. If you are facing a lack of emotional connection with a significant person, trying to resolve differences in goals and priorities, or experiencing loneliness or dissatisfaction with yourself or your relationships, I am here to support you.
How I can help
I create a safe and supportive space where you can explore the challenges you are facing and discern how to make changes in your life. For couples, I can help you understand and appreciate each other’s triggers, hurts, and needs. I will also assist you to find new ways of relating that foster a more trusting and intimate connection. I aim to get both of you on the same team and to equip you with communication and conflict management skills so that you can have a more fulfilling relationship.
For individuals, I can help you gain insight about your thoughts, values, inner life, and past experiences, as well as the external voices and pressures you are facing, so that you can have more clarity about your options and the steps you need to take to reach your goals. Having a roadmap for the journey ahead can make the difference between floundering and thriving.
My approach
My approach to therapy is attachment-based, systemic, and client-centred. I primarily practise Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), which is an evidence-based, experiential model. EFT helps you explore emotions and identify patterns of reactive behaviour that no longer serve you or your relationship. EFT is applicable for any couple experiencing a rift in their connection and is an industry standard for couple therapy.
I am trained to provide premarital and couples counselling and have completed specialised learning at the masters level to address grief and trauma. I am also influenced by systems framework and integrate psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural (CBT) techniques when they are appropriate.
More about me
I identify as gifted and discovered later in life how my asynchronous development contributed to feelings of loneliness or difficulty relating to others in my romantic relationships and friendships. I have been on the receiving end of therapy myself to discover more about what makes me tick and really embrace my strengths and weaknesses. I’ve experienced that it takes effort and tenacity to make a change in your life, but you emerge empowered by the process.
After marriage, I also experienced the challenge of supporting my partner through issues like chronic pain, unemployment, and career transition. Because of these experiences, I feel passionate about helping couples build and maintain strong connections, especially in the face of conflict or relational distress.
In my free time, you can find me reading books, cooking my favourite foods, or enjoying the outdoors.
